The following criteria will be considered for this award:

  • Positive role model
  • Someone who acts to help another with no thought to their own personal safety
  • Someone who voluntarily leaves a point of safety to assume life risk to save or attempt to save the life of another
  • Someone who comes to the aid of another and provides lifesaving skills

The following criteria will be considered for this award:

This award recognizes an officer(s) who while on duty or off duty went above and beyond their law enforcement responsibilities in rendering care to a citizen or a member of their agency in need of medical attention. This recognition signifies officers who have been able to demonstrate that their CPR/First Responder training was beneficial in saving a life.

The following criteria will be considered for this award:

  • Willingness to take on additional duties in addition to their current role
  • Outstanding member in his/her campus community
  • Developed innovative crime prevention techniques in an effort to provide a safe environment to students, staff and faculty
  • Develop a proactive approach to address current issues affecting our students
  • Identify deficiency inside/outside of the department and make recommendations and provide a direction for implementation.

The following criteria will be considered for this award:

  • Strong commitment to the community
  • Passion for crime prevention
  • Development of community policing programs
  • Community relationship building and development of strong partnerships
  • Utilization of various communication tools such as social media, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Awarded to an individual or department for an unusually outstanding contribution to the goals and philosophies of the Association.

The following criteria will be considered for this award:

  • Membership in the Association
  • Number of years of service to the Association
  • Contributions to the Association
  • Offices held in this and other professional associations of campus public safety officials
  • General contributions to campus public safety
  • Recognition by local campus officials

The following criteria will be considered for this award:

  • Must be a Captain or above
  • Must be a member in good standing
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated by successful transition to higher rank and authority
  • Strong devotion to campus law enforcement and the community they serve
  • Have cultivated others to follow in the field of campus policing
  • Respected by their peers

The Ralph Avery Leadership Development Award is awarded to a campus law enforcement and public safety leader who identifies emerging leaders and embraces the ideals of leadership development and mentorship in the furtherance of the profession. Ralph Avery was a true pioneer in the campus law enforcement and public safety profession. His legacy is shaped by the countless members of the profession who have benefitted from his vast knowledge, wise counsel, and kind spirit. Ralph was a mentor to many, and friend to all. He had the unique ability to make all of his mentees feel as though they were the “chosen” pupil. In reality, he shared this special relationship with many others. His ability to provide support and advice for so many people, at the same time, was a true gift. These relationships endured and flourished through career and life changes, both for Ralph and his mentees. His willingness to be a mentor to so many will have a lasting impact on our profession for years to come.

The following criteria will be considered for this award:

  • Member in good standing of the Association
  • Passionate about public safety and the important services being provided to the community
  • Offers sound counsel and advice to mentees in order to advance the mentee’s personal and professional development
  • Shares his or her valuable time and knowledge and is accessible to mentees
  • Takes an active role in promoting the value of the mentee, both on campus, and in the wider community and profession
  • Demonstrates a commitment to integrating mentees into the ever-growing network of campus law enforcement and public safety professionals through training, education, and participation in professional organizations
  • Sets an example for other campus law enforcement and public safety leaders to follow through unwavering dedication to the profession and its future leaders

This award is to be presented to an individual or individuals who demonstrate exemplary service to their department, institution or their local campus community. The performance to be recognized by this award should reflect a high level of professional commitment by the recipient(s) to the values, standards, programs or services provided by the department. Additionally, this award may recognize performance that goes well beyond basic job expectations and contributes significantly to the department’s favorable standing within the campus or local community.

  1. Significant involvement in an emergency or tactical response
  2. Outstanding involvement in community engagement
  3. Significant contribution to the mission of the department
  4. Significant involvement with a community-based volunteer or charitable  organization
  5. Performed a service or act above and beyond the call of duty
